Dawn to Dusk Report
Carlos Zamora gathered some great race reports from team members who participated in the 2009 Dawn to Dusk MTN bike race. Here is the prologue:
Once upon a time there were four Procon mountain bike riders who planned to race The Dawn to Dusk on December 5th, 2009 at the Pemberton Trail, Fountain Hills, AZ. These are those four riders who made the Carlos O’Brien’s Corporate Team: myself, Carlos Zamora, still completing base miles, Phillip Panipinto, Corey O’brien and Ryan O’Connor. Peter Hogan and Eric Rehbein decided to tackle the event solo. Also, Rich Bucher decided to race the Dawn to Dusk race as a duo.

Here’s another great report from Rick Bucher:
Julie and I decided to do the Dawn ’til Dusk Mtn Bike Race about two months before the event, and set about spending more time on the dirt than on the road, for a change. I went ahead and bought a new bike (Fisher Superfly 29er) for the occasion! We pre-rode the course like good little racers, and set up a nice little pit area for the event. Our plan was to just ride a nice, brisk pace and see what happened. I rode the first, icy cold lap and we switched laps throughout the day. At around 11:00, the announcer said that the current running order had been posted at registration, so I took a stroll to see how we were sitting, with absolutely NO expectations. To my great surprise, we were in 3rd! At 5:30 behind the second placed team, my desire to see just what I’m capable of kicked in and I went out with more intensity for my next lap. As it turned out, Julie had just ridden a smoking-fast lap, and two hours later, the gap was down to about 30 seconds! At the end of the day, we eclipsed that other team by a bit, and wound up with a solid second place finish, and eight laps completed! It was an absolute blast doing a long race like that, and we’re planning on doing it again in 2010, and possibly adding a 24-hour event like Old Pueblo to our plan!
Keep those reports coming in!
