The June team meeting has been pushed back a week to Monday June 14th at 7 pm. We will meet at the 12th Street and Northern location of Carlos O’Briens. Remember to bring your money for tube team order. The Schwalbe order has arrived so Brian will have tires to distribute.

Velo Vie Sponsored Procon Cycling Team Wins Arizona State Criterium Championship 2010

Presented by Team Waste Management and supported by the downtown Scottsdale merchants, the 2010 Arizona State Criterium Championships took place at the Cyclo de Mayo Criterium Course in downtown Scottsdale, Arizona on Sunday, May 2, 2010. All fields were scored separately and medals were given to the top three places in all categories.

The entire Procon team is celebrating a day of victory after a perfect combination of large fields and windy rides. At the top of the winners’ circle was Craig Streit, the 2009 Cat 2 State Champion. This year Craig won the Pro/1/2 race becoming the Pro/1 Arizona State Criterium Champion. Teammate Keith Brodhagen fought hard to win the 50+ race and earn the State Championship title. Procon riders, Scott Wall and Patrick Rhodes demonstrated great competitive spirit taking Silver and an awesome 7th place, respectively.

Streit, racing the Vitesse 300 SE to victory once again, said: “I have come to reply on my Vitesse as another extension of my body and expect it to perform at the same capacity. Each and every time it exceeds my expectation and enables me to take it to the next level. I believe this is the bike that can handle the fast pace, tight hairpins and blind corners inherent in competition, while also being lightweight enough to accelerate my pace. I love it!”

2010 State Crit Champs

Carlos O’Brien’s Racing / Procon racers had a great day out at the AZ state Crit Champs on Sunday, May 2nd. It was a windy day and the fields were large. Perfect combination for some great racing!

Craig Streit won the Pro/1/2 race and is now the state champion! What a great ride, Craig! Congratulations!

Keith Brodhagen won a hard fought 50+ race to take first and earn title of state champ!

Scott Wall, with teammate Patrick Rhodes in the cat 3 race had a great day. Scott took SILVER! Patrick finished an awesome 7th!

What a tremendous day for the team! Congratulations to all the state champs and to the supporting riders. Great results and excellent teamwork!

Team Picnic – May 8th

We will be having our May team picnic this Saturday May 8th at the NE corner of Indian School and Hayden at 10:00 am. See the map at the bottom of the page for directions to the picnic location. The group ride prior to the meeting will be the Tribe Ride leaving at 6 am from Tribe. We will be meeting at the picnic location at 5:45 am and riding over to the start. The Tribe Ride is approximately 3 hours in duration with a wide array of abilities (there is a group to ride with for all ability levels). It would be nice to have a large Procon contingent at the ride for our sponsor.

Food: The team will provide the main course (meat) and drinks (water, soda, PBR, etc). We need your help with the side dishes. If you last name begins with:

A-J – Bring Appetizers (cheese, crackers, veggies, chips, nuts, dip, etc)

K-O – Bring Salads (potato, macaroni, etc), cole slaw, back beans, etc

P-Z – Bring Desserts

Come on 0ut this Sunday, February 21st for the 2nd Avondale Crit! This event has quickly turned into one of the racer’s favorites here in AZ. A great course, big fields and fierce competition make for a fun day for racers and spectators alike. You can access all the event info on the Avondale Crit page.

Vulture Mine TT Update

Here’s the latest on the Vulture Mine TT in Wickenburg:

The TT will take place this Sunday, Jan 31^st. I talked to the MCDOT this morning and was told the road is now open to vehicle traffic. The road crews have been out to the road and graded most of the debris from the roadway. I’ll be heading out on Saturday to perform some last minute cleanup to make sure the road is safe for a TT bike at 30+ mph.

Registration for the race will remain open until Friday night, for those who have not yet registered. Please note that preregistration doesn’t cost anything (Procon picks up the cost for all races we promote), and it makes the process much more seamless on race day.
